Dirty Dingo billet aluminum air conditioning bracket for mounting the Sanden 508 (9537) A/C compressor on the passenger side on an 1997-2013 Gen 3 and Gen 4 LS engines. Machined from 3/8 thick 6061-T6 aircraft billet aluminum. Comes complete with all 6061-T6 billet aluminum spacers, stainless washers and grade 8 zinc coated allen bolts. Includes new mechanical belt tensioner and idler pulley. This mechanical tensioner is our design that only fits our products. This is not a LS replacement tensioner. Places the A/C compressor in line with the factory serpentine belt drive system. This kit is designed to fit LS Vortec Truck, Camaro, and Corvette accessories. 2010 and newer Camaro accessories are the same as Vortec Truck- not Camaro. Katech Inc. has been involved with the C5-R LSx race program since 1997. One of the first things that was noticed was there seemed to be a bad spot in the rpm range where the serpentine accessory belt would want to jump off of the pulley. After installing a manual belt tensioner on the race engine, the belt problem disappeared. Even though this problem was found on the race engines, it is also the same case with the standard LSx engines. Manual belt tensioners are a must for anyone doing any sort of performance driving with a Gen 3 / 4 powered car or truck. Without it, the belt can be thrown by the stock tensioner.
Norris Motorsports- When LS engines were throwing belts way back 10+ years ago.......said the reason the belt comes off is because of a modded/built engine that REVS faster AND has the power to back up those faster REVS. They said the factory tensioner can only BOUNCE up and down so fast, and it cannot keep up with an engine that can REV fast with power. After installing manual belt tensioners the belt has never come off again, actually it simply can't with a fixed tensioner. The bouncing type tensioners also stretch the belts. So it’s a win win, even for a bone stock engine because a belt will literally last beyond 10 years. My belt is at 9 years right now.
Comp Cams- GM LS1 with the factory spring belt tensioner becomes prone to throwing belts when used in performance applications and with aftermarket balancers. Manual LS1 serpentine belt tensioners are an "essential" performance upgrade for all LS engines allowing precise control over serpentine belt tension. Manual belt tensioners control damper resonance often encountered in high RPM applications or when aftermarket balancers are utilized. By controlling resonance, belt slippage - a common problem with the LS1 engine - is eliminated.
